Course Description
Crisis Intervention is NOT psychotherapy; rather, it is a specialized acute emergency mental health intervention that requires specialized training. As physical first aid is to surgery, crisis intervention is to psychotherapy. Thus, crisis intervention is sometimes called “emotional first aid”. This program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual crisis intervention. This course offers core knowledge for anyone involved in Peer Support and crisis intervention. This includes people in the fields of Emergency Services, Public Safety, Law Enforcement, Military, Disaster Response, Employee Assistance, Healthcare, & Mental Health services.

Course Overview
Join this comprehensive 2-day ICISF-certified training designed to strengthen your ability to respond to crises with confidence and care.
The Group Crisis Intervention Course provides participants with the knowledge and tools to deliver effective group crisis interventions, including demobilizations, defusing, and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). You’ll also explore the fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), with emphasis on appropriate follow-up and referral processes.
This course is ideal for professionals in Counselling, Psychology, Disaster Response, Education, Emergency Services, Employee Assistance, Healthcare, Critical Incident Response, Mental Health, Military, Spiritual Care, and Traumatic Stress.

– Offered through the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Emergency Health Services (PACE). - ICISF Certificate of Completion upon verified full attendance and course evaluation.
Course Logistics
- Attend online with a computer, tablet, or smartphone (Zoom access, webcam, and microphone required).
- Zoom link and materials provided 24 hours before class.
- Includes breaks and a 30-minute lunch.
- Full attendance and participation (including breakout sessions) are required for certification.
- Prior completion of Assisting Individuals in Crisis is recommended but not required.
Registration Details
Deposit: 75$ due upon registration, the rest by January 1st, 2026
Early Bird Rate: $300 (before January 1, 2026)
Regular Rate: $350 (after January 1, 2026) – full payment due upon registration
Registration fees are transferable or refundable up to the early bird date. After the class manual is sent, fees are non-refundable.
